Goals of Epic Proportions

As I recline here on my couch trying to recover from my 'Book Club Hangover', nursing a sore throat, and listening to Sid the Science Kid in the background, I began to mentally dissect my book, Heart of Karelia. (for probably the thousandth time)  I had walked away from my writing group get together a week and a half ago revived and ready to continue writing with renewed vigor.  However, my fun little historical-fiction has now taken on so many plots, sub-plots, characters, and facets that I fear it is turning into an Epic all on its own.  Me write an Epic?  That is beyond laughable.  But some people seem to believe in me. ( imagine that! ) In fact, monday was a perfect example why I'll never get this book finished.  When my daughter asked me how much I wrote that day I told her a bit sheepishly, "one page."  Her response, "One page!! In two hours!?"  She seemed positively incredulous that I had accomplished so little.  (Nothing like an eight-year-old to rip you down to size)  Of course I chalked it up to being a monday, the day after Halloween, the kids still sugar detoxing, Dustin had just gone out of town, and the excuses went on and on.  The truth of the matter was, I was just having an off day, and I finally realized...It is ok to have an off day!  (Of course I felt so much better by yesterday because I had managed to write quite a bit more than one page)  So here is to keeping our fingers crossed that I'll finish this story sometime in my life time!  But as motivation for myself, I decided to put a teaser of the beginning of my book on my blog.  Just click on the Heart of Karelia link to the right!
