Team of Rivals is an intimate look into the presidency and life of Abraham Lincoln. Goodwin does an amazing job delving into the lives of not only Abraham Lincoln, but those of his presidential cabinet. Learning about these influential men, their backgrounds, ambitions, and rivalries were fascinating to read. The beautiful political balancing act performed by Lincoln is absolutely astounding. His willingness to bring his political rivals into his cabinet as well as managing them with such a brilliant hand, proved his worth to our nation. Lincoln truly was a political genius as is proven by the patient and methodical management of his cabinet. What was so unique was Lincoln's ability to understand human-nature. His magnanimous attitude toward everyone did not go unnoticed by those closest to him, or citizens abroad. Goodwin also details aspects of the Civil War, the strategy, and feelings of the people of the era. While it is definitely not a 'light and easy' read. It is well worth the time. An amazing read!
